STOP 0x0000007b after first reboot

Attempting to install from Windows XP x64 onto a blank 100GB partition. Appear to be having issues with onboard Via 8237 SATA controller on my ASUS A8V-E Deluxe motherboard. I've tried loading current x64 drivers for both SATA (5.20c) and PATA/IDE (1.40a) with no luck.
Created CDROM disks with all of the driver files in the root directory, and am able to see and install them. Extracting files gets to 20% and then it does a graceful reboot with warning that it is going to restart the system to complete setup. Gets to the progress bar splash-screen and then the STOP error, 0x0000007b, 0xfffff98000606980, 0xffffffffc0000034.
I've been running this system for a year with a single SATA drive (Seagate ST340083 2AS) running in IDE mode per the BIOS setting. Tried the Vista install with it set to IDE and then to SATA with the same result. Formatted the partition in NTFS prior to each attempt.
The good news is that I can still get boot my original Windows XP x64, but have to catch the Vista boot menu when rebooting or it goes right to the STOP error.
I've been searching for others having the same issue, and have found some references to a similar issue with Beta 1, but nothing current. Anyone else having this problem or know how to resolve?

The error doesn't necessarily refer to your sata drive but could potentially refer to the cd drive. I had this same bsod until I changed the dvdrw drive I was using for installation. Apparently the atapi driver included with beta does not work with my NEC ND-3540a drive OR it does not work with a cdrom drive that is a master ( I have 2, so this one is master, and I ended up using the slave drive for installation )

I had exactly the same problem with an ASUS A8V-Deluxe and a NEC ND3000A as Master-Drive on the PATA Channel. After booting Vista Beta2 from the Slave-Drive (a normal Toshiba DVD-Rom) everything works fine.
